  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 egg at room temperature

  • 2 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream softened butter for 30 seconds, then beat in sugar for 3 minutes. Add eggs one at a time until combined, then mix in vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture on low speed, beating until just combined.
Baking
  1. Scoop dough into 1-inch balls.
  2. Roll each dough ball in nonpareils until fully coated.
  3. Arrange balls 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
  4. Immediately after removing from the oven, press a chocolate kiss into the center of each hot cookie.
  5. Cool cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter and eggs are at room temperature. Don't overmix the dough once the flour mixture is added to keep the cookies tender.
