Ingredients

  • 6 frozen boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons butter, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Equipment

  • 6-quart slow cooker
  • meat thermometer to check for 165°F internal temp
  • Tongs for transferring hot chicken
  • Cutting Board

Method

  1. Lightly grease the inside of your 6-quart slow cooker with oil or cooking spray. Place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
  2. Place the 6 frozen chicken breasts in a single layer at the bottom of the crockpot. Avoid stacking for even cooking.
  3. Sprinkle salt, poultry seasoning, and pepper evenly over the frozen chicken breasts.
  4. Dot the chicken with sliced butter, placing a few thin slices on top of each piece.
  5. Cover and cook on HIGH for 4–6 hours or LOW for 6–8 hours. Avoid opening the lid in the first few hours.
  6. Check internal temperature using a meat thermometer. Chicken is done at 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part.
  7. Use tongs to transfer chicken to a cutting board. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before cutting.
  8. Shred with two forks or slice as needed. Use immediately or store for future meals.

Notes

Use thighs instead of breasts for richer flavor. Add broth, salsa, BBQ sauce, or seasonings like garlic powder or paprika to customize flavor. Always check internal temperature with a thermometer.
