Ingredients

  • 3 large russet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Sea salt (to taste)
  • Black pepper (to taste)

Equipment

  • Air Fryer Any basket or oven model.
  • Large mixing bowl For soaking and seasoning fries.
  • Mandoline slicer or chef’s knife For evenly slicing fries.
  • Paper Towels For drying fries before seasoning.

Method

  1. Wash and optionally peel the russet potatoes. Slice into fries using a mandoline or sharp knife, about 1/4-inch thick.
  2. Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl and cover with cool water. Soak for at least 1 hour to remove excess starch.
  3. Drain the potatoes and pat completely dry using paper towels. This step is key for crispy fries.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Toss the dry fries in a bowl with olive oil, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Place the fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding. Cook in batches if needed.
  6. Air fry for 15–20 minutes, shaking the basket every 5–7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve immediately or keep warm in a low oven while cooking remaining batches. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauces!

Notes

Soaking the cut potatoes is essential for removing excess starch and achieving crispiness. Dry them thoroughly before cooking. Don’t overcrowd the basket — cook in batches for best results.
