Ingredients

  • 4 slices white bread (or sourdough, brioche, etc.)
  • 2 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 slices Swiss, provolone, or Havarti (or your favorite cheese)
  • 2 tbsp softened butter

Equipment

  • Air Fryer Basket or oven style.
  • Butter knife For spreading butter evenly.
  • Spatula For flipping and serving.
  • Toothpicks Optional, to prevent sandwich from separating during cooking.

Method

  1. Butter one side of each slice of bread generously.
  2. Place two slices of bread butter-side down. Layer cheeses evenly, then top with remaining bread slices, butter-side up.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 370°F (185°C) for 3–4 minutes.
  4. Place sandwiches in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Use a toothpick if needed to secure the top bread slice.
  5. Air fry for 3–4 minutes. Then flip carefully and cook for another 3–4 minutes until both sides are golden brown and cheese is melted.
  6. Remove and let cool slightly. Slice and serve immediately.

Notes

Preheating your air fryer and using softened butter are key to getting that crispy, golden crust. Don’t overcrowd the basket — cook sandwiches in batches if needed.
