Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs (all-beef or preferred variety)
  • 4 hot dog buns (brioche, potato, or whole wheat)
  • cooking spray or oil (optional, for crisping)

Equipment

  • Air Fryer basket-style or oven-style
  • Tongs for flipping and removing hot dogs
  • instant-read thermometer optional, to check internal temp (160°F)

Method

  1. Prepare your hot dogs and air fryer. If desired, make shallow diagonal slits in the hot dogs to prevent bursting and promote crisping.
  2. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes for optimal crispiness and even cooking.
  3. Place hot dogs in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between them. Optionally spray lightly with oil.
  4. Air fry for 4-6 minutes, flipping halfway through. Cook until hot dogs are browned and heated through.
  5. Check for doneness. Hot dogs should appear plump, slightly charred, and slits should have opened up.
  6. Warm buns in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes at 400°F if desired.
  7. Assemble hot dogs in buns, add your favorite toppings, and serve immediately.

Notes

Try different types of hot dogs like turkey or veggie dogs, and use brioche or whole wheat buns for variety. For low-carb options, wrap the hot dog in lettuce. Top with chili, cheese, sauerkraut, or your favorite slaw for added flavor.
